Corporate Pink Slip Fever

(to the tune of Maxwell's Silver Hammer)
Jane was capable, her visits inescapable,
Always on the road,
Late nights all alone in an airport, ohh-oh-oh-oh...
Then Ameritech started thinking, "What the heck?
This is our domain.
Can we meet you early tomorrow, Jane?"
But as she's walking in the front door,
A guard walks up behind,
Bang, bang,
Corporate pink slip fever comes down on her head,
Bang, bang,
Corporate pink slip fever leaves so much unsaid.
Back in Evanston, stress is touching everyone,
Corporate's on a roll,
With a brand new goal that they want to mee-ee-ee-eet;
And poor Maribeth, though the news scares her to death,
Goes from day to day,
Knows she cannot stay to complete her work.
Before the slip arrives on her desk,
She gently glides away,
Bang, bang,
Corporate pink slip fever comes down on her head,
Bang, bang,
Corporate pink slip fever leaves so much unsaid.
Now Ameritech, cleansed of all its dross and dreck,
Tells the world the news,
The world then has to choose what they will believe;
But the marketplace, yearning for a human face,
Coldly turns away,
Wishing they could say how this makes them feel,
So, when it comes to choosing the firms
To sign their libraries,
Bang, bang,
Corporate pink slip fever comes home to its roost,
Bang, bang,
Corporate pink slip fever gives other firms a boost.
