Alan's passions include the Bahá'í Faith, diversity, and choral music.
In the Bahá'í world, Alan has been an elected member of Local Spiritual Assemblies throughout nearly his entire time as a Bahá'í. He has served as one of the senior officers of these Assemblies for most of those years. He was elected as a delegate to the US National Bahá'í Convention from Indiana before his move to Illinois, and has been elected from two electoral units in Australia. He has been the chief organiser for Unit Conventions in Indiana, Illinois, and now in Australia. In his professional capacity, he also serves as a consultant to the Bahá'í World Centre Department of Library and Archives in Haifa, Israel.
Alan was trained as a facilitator for the Purdue University DiversiTeam's Celebrating Diversity workshops and was one of the presenters of the workshop on more than 20 occasions to a wide variety of groups, both within and outside of Purdue. He has been a keynote speaker and presenter at several diversity-related events and has participated in groups devoted to diversity action.
As a singer, Alan has not only been a member of choirs and a solo and small group performer, but founded his own group, Octomystic Harmony, provided leadership in the US Bahá'í Choral Festivals and now serves as General Manager of the Australian Bahá'í Choral Festival, held each year since 2015.
